babla-logo-185x45Language portal bab.la now speaks Arabic
Greetings,
My name is Susan, I am Egyptian and I currently have an internship at an online dictionary in Hamburg, Germany. I helped establish their first Arabic version of the dictionary, and I thought may be you would be interested in this piece of news!
Regards,
Susan
(Hamburg, June 14, 2010) The interactive language portal bab.la launches its Arabic version today. With the Arabic launch bab.la includes Arabic-English as its 28th dictionary.
“We are very excited to offer our language portal to an entirely new audience. Arabic was always on our wish list as it is the language of one of the strongest growing Internet and economic regions” says Andreas Schroeter, co-founder of bab.la.
bab.la’s dictionaries are now available in Arabic on many communications channels. Besides using the website users can look up translations via mobile phone at http://babla.mobi/ as well. Twitter users can send words to @babladict and get the corresponding translation right back.
“This is just the beginning as our portal is wiki-based. Users can suggest their own translations or complete existing translations” explains Susan Karmal, project manager of the Arabic version. She adds: “Languages change all the time – and who can better keep track of all these changes than millions of users?”
